Mission and Impact 

Entrepreneurship is one of the essential drivers of economic growth and innovation. However, the entrepreneurial journey remains significantly uneven across racial lines. Despite an increasing entrepreneurial spirit among Black and Latinx communities, systemic barriers remain which disproportionately limit their business success. 

Supporting Black and Latinx entrepreneurship is crucial, not only for creating a just and equitable society but also for unlocking substantial economic potential.

NICHE fosters entrepreneurship education, mentorship, and networking opportunities specifically targeted towards Black and Latinx entrepreneurs to equip them with necessary resources and tools to successfully launch and grow their businesses. By supporting Black and Latinx entrepreneurship, we not only address systemic inequities but also tap into the wealth of innovation and economic vitality that these communities possess. 

The challenges are significant, but the potential rewards—for individual entrepreneurs, their communities, and the economy as a whole—are even greater.

As a founding board member, you will play a vital role in guiding the strategic direction of the organization and ensuring the successful implementation of our programs and initiatives. To maintain the high standards and effectiveness of our board, we have established certain requirements and expectations for all members.

Requirements for Joining NICHE:

1. Commitment to our Mission: As a board member, it is essential that you align with and support the mission, vision, and values of NICHE. Your dedication to our cause will help drive our organization forward.

2. Financial Contribution: Each board member is expected to make an annual gift of $500 to NICHE. This contribution demonstrates your personal investment in our work and allows us to continue providing impactful programming and services to our community.

3. Attendance and Participation: Regular attendance at quarterly board meetings is mandatory. The meeting cadence will be established post-recruitment. Your active participation and engagement during these sessions are crucial as we discuss organizational matters, make strategic decisions, and evaluate the progress of our programs.

4. Committee Involvement: Board members are encouraged to serve on at least one committee or task force. These committees focus on specific areas of our work and provide opportunities for you to contribute your expertise, collaborate with other board members, and actively contribute to our organizational goals.

Expectations as Board Members:

1. Advocacy and Promotion: As ambassadors of NICHE, we expect our board members to promote our organization within their networks, communities, and professional spheres. Your enthusiasm and support will help us attract more supporters, donors, and volunteers, ultimately expanding our reach and impact.

2. Strategic Guidance: Drawing upon your skills, experience, and diverse perspectives, we look to our board members for strategic guidance and input. We encourage you to actively participate in discussions, share your insights, and contribute to the decision-making process.

3. Fundraising Support: Board members are essential in supporting our fundraising efforts. This includes identifying potential donors, attending and promoting fundraising events, and assisting with solicitation efforts. Your active involvement will significantly contribute to our financial sustainability.

4. Governance and Accountability: As a member of the board, you will have a fiduciary responsibility to NICHE. We expect all board members to act in the best interest of the organization, exercise due diligence, and comply with all legal and ethical standards.
